Olympics

We have been doing loads of learning around the Olympics.
We watched this video, made for the last Olympic Games, which were in Rio 2016.

We were looking at how we need to look for messages in videos, even when there are no words. We need to pull information out of the text (video).

In this video, we are introduced to a range of sports which are in the Olympics. We see the mascots travelling trough the rainforest...
There are musicians playing traditional South American music too.

We decided that the video is giving us a sneak peak or glimpse into Brazilian culture and what we could expect to see at the Olympics. It might be designed to hook us in to wanting to watch it.

We are looking for the Winter Games episodes...

Life skills with Nigel

We were lucky to have Nigel back, teaching us life skills.
We had to be really good self managers to learn new skills.

Kiwi Can

We are still learning about respect.
Kiwi Can says:
"I show respect for my school
because it is really cool!"

We started our session with a recap about ways we show respect.

We learned a new game, where we had to listen and be the first to grab the cone.
It was great to see lots of integrity being shown when people were honest about getting out.
It was elimination to see who had the quickest reflexes!
The final, between Levi and Ethan was won by Levi.

Today we worked in groups to come up with our own catch phrases.

Zombie tag

We learned a new game.

The tagger is the boogie monster.
If you are tagged, you become a zombie and you have to be on the bark. Zombies can't climb.
The game continues until everyone is a zombie.

Welcome Mr Gold

We are super lucky to have Mr Gold with us for the next 7 weeks!

This morning for fitness we spelt out his name, with our bodies.

Some of us collaborated to come up with the letter.

Welcome back to Kiwi Can

We are learning about Respect this term. We have new leaders! Owen, who came last year for a few sessions, is joined by Katie.
Owen and Katie teaching us the new catchphrase.
We played a suped up game of Paper Scissors Rock'. If we lost, we had to go down on our knees. People on feet competed against each other... and people on their knees competed. If you lost again, you went to your bottom. You could be freed by answering a question from Owen, Katie or Ms Raisin.

Our focus is on Respect for our school.
"I show respect for my school, because it is really cool."

We worked together to come up with what respect means to us. There were loads a fantastic ideas.
Stop look and listen.
Being kind... all the time.
Look after the school and property.
Respect our land, equipment and family.

The Treaty of Waitangi

As we head into the long weekend, we had a discussion around The Treaty of Waitangi today.

We read The Tree Hut Treaty.

We then jotted down our current knowledge of what we know around The Treaty.
Scary! We know nothing!!!
